OUR CHURCH LEADERS A LITTLE ABOUT OUR CHURCH HISTORY
DR. STEVIE C. AND PROPHETESS DR. MARIETTA DUNCAN
SENIOR PASTOR AND FIRST LADY, THE LIVING WORD BAPTIST CHURCH MINISTRIES. |
The Living Word Baptist was formed in February 2000 After much consideration and prayer Pastor Duncan and family decided to start a church ministry in Vicksburg after hearing from God to lead a Body of believers who wanted The Word of God. Pastor Duncan is the Founder and only Pastor The Living Word Baptist Church Has had in its 18 year existence. In 2004 we purchased a church facility at 260 Hwy 27 South and we were able to establish several ministries that impacted the daily lives of our membership. We did not know then but eventually realized that God was preparing us for something. In July 2005 we launched our Laboring In THE Vineyard Project where we were able to access our ministry partners to provide food, clothing outreach ministries, Housing Ministries and job opportunities for those in need in Vicksburg. We served over 2,500 individuals and families and created a tremendous network called The Living Word Community Care Network that helped us to be prepared for our next great ministry challenge. That challenge became a reality in August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast and we were forever changed. Due to our success in accessing resources we were called upon to aid in community shelters daily feeding programs childcare, relocation services and reconnecting families. Pastor Duncan became the assistant chaplain at the Vicksburg convention center shelter and help transform the convention center into a highly successful emergency shelter environment. Living Word had ministers working in every shelter in Vicksburg to help be intermediaries for African-Americans and minority victims of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
We became the center point for disaster relief after organization such as the Salvation Army Red Cross and United Way began to scale down their efforts. Pastor Duncan worked with the Mississippi Department of human services to engage a voucher program so that victims of the disaster could access childcare. In our desire to expand our ministries and After thousands of requests for more information about our ministries we established The Living Word Faith Family Fellowship Ministries Our Cyberspace Presence. We expanded our ministry footprint in cyberspace and in October 2015 God moved again and we purchased a new CHURCH HOME. The Living Word Baptist Church on Farmer Street in Vicksburg, MS. We thank God for how He can do miraculous things to empower His purpose in a ministry. What He wants to do next with us we are seeking his face for but whatever it is we know that it is going to empower the Kingdom of God and the Body of Christ AND MOST IMPORTANTLY HE WILL BE THERE WITH US. This is a brief history, and more is to come! God Bless You! The Living Word Baptist Church Family. |
